  • how some people just need to be listened to and held
  • having a purpose in life or something that gets you out of bed
  • the “progress not perfection” approach
  • seeking approval from others

Bio:

Candace Schoner

Candace Schoner knows firsthand that life doesn’t always follow a recipe—and that’s often where the richest stories begin.

A former journalist and marketing professional, Candace has spent her career sharing real stories that inform, inspire, and spark meaningful change. After being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in her early fifties, Candace transformed her deeply personal challenge into a renewed mission:  helping others find hope and inspiration despite unexpected challenges.

In RECIPE FOR A HAPPIER LIFE: Apron Optional, Candace writes with warmth, humor and radical honesty, guided by one clear goal: to help readers embrace their authentic selves and live happier lives.

She is the founder of the nonprofit Voices for Mental Health, Inc., and the host of its companion podcast, featuring over 100 episodes of personal stories and expert insights.

Now in her mid-sixties, Candace resides in Charlottesville, Virginia with her rescue dog Bailey and her beloved cat Tali.
